Planners and policy makers need to change practices and established regulations that systematically discriminate against LGBT people to practices that actively encourage the inclusion of LGBT people in the city. With institutional change comes cultural change, which can influence personal opinions, or at least make personal homophobia culturally unacceptable.”-Kelly Hall
Thesis:The Role of Gayborhoods in LGBT Recognition.Race, Gender and Ethnicity in Planning 2011.The growing gentrification of national 'Gayborhoods' on the rise →
Gentrification is such a win lose situation. If you develop an area that has low property value it will rise after having the property assessed. Meaning you are going to be paying more for your property mmmmm inflation. This can be good in the means of $$$ yet this can be really bad for the people who can’t afford to rent or own the newly assessed property. It eventually kicks out the people who lived there from the get go. How can a local gov. go about practicing anti-gentrification?

There Goes the Gayborhood
Ed Helms tries to make a San Francisco gay sex shop more kid-friendly.
I did a site analysis today that looked at a prospective location to start an RVAGayborhood and noticed that there was a United Methodist Church 1 block away from LGBQT Godfreys Restaurant & Nightclub. On the same block as the church was another club called Aurora.
There you go, Taylor. I’ll bring the ice cream to you. Boom, everyone wins.
And it’s even got some gay shit on it to suit you hahaha.
RVAGayborhood idea:Label businesses that cater to the client. client being us gay folks.
